Get it on campaign
Condoms are a highly effective, low-cost intervention for preventing HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy. However, condom use in Uganda has remained low, with a notable drop after 2011 amongst young women and men. Upon this background, PACE contracted S4P Group to develop a Social and Behavior Change campaign to reduce the rates of HIV, STIs and unintended pregnancy through increased demand, correct and consistent use of condoms.
The main behaviors that the campaign was promoting included correct and consistent use of condoms with casual and multiple partners: This is the most effective method to prevent HIV, STIs and unintended pregnancy. The HCD processes involved in the development of this campaign included desk reviews, co-creation, iteration and pretest sessions with priority audience representatives, review sessions with technical stakeholders and final approval. As a result, condom use practices and indicators among priority audience members improved. Self-efficacy around condom use improved, knowledge levels increased and partner negotiation around use of condoms improved as well.
