COMCONNECT, S4P Group’s narrowcasting solution

With consumers getting oversaturated with promotional material and their attention spans perpetually decreasing, narrowcasting is a go-to solution to cut through the clutter. S4P Group uses the ComConnect tool for narrowcasting.

ComConnect is an application that allows an implementer to both collect data as well as display data in the form of videos. The app is available as a free download on the Google play store. DreamLine used ComConnect in interventions around reduction of malaria infection under the Obulamu? (How is your life) campaign funded by USAID.

For the Obulamu? campaign, the application was loaded onto media boxes and smart phones located in health centres or community gathering places used by health workers to conduct teaching on the interventions.

Users of the app, in this case the health worker or Village Health Team (VHT) members, showed community members videos with messages formulated to promote behaviour change. The app provides real time monitoring of the number of people reached by the videos. It is also used to collect any feedback on where there is need to improve the messaging. This feedback is in the form of qualitative data that the user collects by asking participants questions and feeding the answers into the app.

This app is a game changer in SBCC initiatives because field-based personnel can record positive deviant video testimonies and narrowcast them amongst community members. The information can then be used to feed into other aspects of the communication campaign. In the Obulamu? campaign, the videos were shown on the long-distance buses that ply upcountry routes.
