Rollout of the Kijja Kuggwa COVID-19 campaign

Borrowing from USAID Social and Behavior Change Activity, S4P Group rolled out the Kijja Kuggwa campaign in the Buganda region in a bid to control the spread of COVID-19 and improve the uptake of precautionary behaviors.

S4P Group employed HCD approaches to adapt the campaign to suit the Buganda context. Specifically, S4P Group worked with priority audience members to identify behavior nudges that would prompt them o adopt the precautionary behaviors. The main one that stood out was the sagala agalamidde cultural drums. Audience representatives mentioned that by sounding this drum at critical times of the day, they would be reminded of the COVID-19 struggle and the need to adopt and adhere to the precautionary behaviors.

As a result, there was an improvement in the adherence to COVID-19 SOPs among priority audiences. Audiences also felt involved in the fight against COVID-19 and eventually, this ed to social responsibility.
